U.S. Embassy Dushanbe accepts applications for 2009-2010 Fulbright Research Scholarship Program

The U.S. Embassy Dushanbe is now accepting applications for the 2009-2010 Fulbright Research Scholarship Program, which is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States of America and Tajikistan. The Fulbright Research Scholarship Program provides fellowships for one semester (4-6 months) at U.S. universities. The fellowships include round-trip airfare and room and board costs.

Applications will be accepted in the following research fields: Agriculture, American History, American Literature, American Studies, Anthropology, Archaeology, Architecture, Art, Art History, Biological Sciences, Business Administration,  Chemistry, Communications, Computer Science, Creative Writing, Dance, Economics, Education, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Film Studies, Geography, Geology, History (non-U.S.), Information Sciences, Journalism, Linguistics, Library Science, Language/Literature (non-U.S.), Law, Mathematics, Medical Sciences, Music, Philosophy, Physics/Astronomy, Political Science, Psychology, Public Administration, Public/Global Health, Religious Studies, Social Work, Sociology, TEFL/Applied Linguistics, Theater, Urban Planning.    
 
Criteria for eligibility – applicants must:

  • be citizens of Tajikistan
  • currently teach at least one course at a University
  • lack funding for research in the United States
  • hold a Ph.D. or Doctoral degree
  • be proficient in written and spoken English
  • be able to demonstrate professional attitude and leadership potential in the field of specialization
  • be able to begin research in the United States in fall 2009
  • be eligible to receive and maintain a U.S. visa
  • Persons applying for or holding permanent residence in the United States are not eligible.  The Fulbright Scholars enter the United States on an Exchange Visitor (J-1) visa sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and are subject to the two-year home-country residence requirement associated with the J-1 visa.

Selection process details: all completed applications will be considered. A panel of U.S. citizen Embassy employees and Fulbright alumni will score the applications based on potential to successfully complete a Fulbright fellowship and will invite the top applicants to an interview. A similar scoring system will be used at the interview.
