Tom Hushek
Tom Hushek has been a career diplomat for 18 years, having joined the Foreign Service in 1988. His initial overseas tours were in Khartoum, Sudan (1988-1990) and Moscow, Russia (1991-1993). After returning to Washington, Mr. Hushek worked at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, followed by assignments at the State Department in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor and the Bureau of South Asian Affairs. From 1999-2002 he served at the US Embassy in Islamabad directing refugee and humanitarian programs for Afghans. He worked as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Kolonia, Micronesia from 2002-2004. From 2004-2005, he served as the senior civilian advisor at the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Herat, Afghanistan.
Mr. Hushek is a graduate from the University of Wisconsin and received a Masters Degree from Columbia University. He speaks Russian and is a native of Wisconsin.
