U.S. Embassy Grant Programs

Democracy Commission Small Grant Program

The U.S. Embassy's Democracy Commission is designed to promote civil society and address key societal issues through a series of targeted small grant programs.  The Democracy Commission Grant Program awards primarily to non-governmental, non-profit organizations (NGOs).

The Program has allocated 200,000 dollars for 2008 to support Tajikistan to move towards democracy. It has existed in Tajikistan since 2001. During 2001-2008 the U.S. Embassy has issued 200 grants for the total amount of 1,220,000 USD.

The U.S. Embassy Democracy Commission Grant Program is limited to organizations based in Tajikistan. We cannot fund projects requested by non-Tajikistani organizations or those that support partisan political or religious activities.  In addition, projects whose primary purpose is charitable activities, humanitarian aid or fundraising cannot be approved.
Several times a year, the U.S. Embassy solicits proposals on several topics for the Democracy Commission Grants Program.
