Information for Travelers
Tajikistan Entry Requirements and Registration Procedures
A valid passport and visa are required to enter Tajikistan. Tajik visas can be obtained at Tajik embassies and consulates abroad. Visas may also be obtained at the Dushanbe airport upon arrival; however, this is only available through prior arrangement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Tajikistan. In addition, all visitors to Tajikistan require an official invitation from a sponsoring organization or individual and travelers must produce the visa to register at hotels. Failure to produce a valid visa may force a traveler to leave the country immediately.
Please note: Entry into Tajikistan along the Gorno-Badakhshan border requires special authorization in advance, in addition to a valid Tajik visa.
Visa requests must be submitted at least three weeks in advance of planned travel, and should be made by the sponsoring organization or individual to the Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) or the Visa and Permissions Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (OVIR). Requests for visa extensions must also be done in advance through the MFA (for official travelers) or OVIR (for tourist or commercial travelers). Travelers staying in Tajikistan over three calendar days must obtain registration stamps at the MFA (for official travelers and employees of international organizations) or OVIR (for tourist or commercial travelers). Registration at the MFA or OVIR must be completed within three days of arrival in Tajikistan.
