Emergency Services
Family Emergencies, Civil Disturbances, and Disasters
In the case of a life or death emergency involving a U.S. citizen call the consular section at (992-37) 229-23-00 and press 9. Within working hours, from 8:00 to 17:00, the call will go straight to the consular section. After working hours and on holidays, the call will be transferred to Post 1. After working hours, you may also call the duty officer at (992-907) 70-10-32.
Family Emergencies
If your family needs to contact you because of an emergency at home or because they are worried about your welfare and cannot reach you directly, they may call the State Department’s Citizens Emergency Center at (202) 647-5225. The State Department will relay the message to the U. S. Consular Section nearest you. The American Citizen Services Unit will attempt to locate you, pass on urgent messages, and, consistent with the Privacy Act, report back to your family.
If we do not have a Privacy Act Waiver from you (which is part of the online registration form) we cannot report any information to your family.
Natural Disasters and Civil Disturbances
If you are caught in a natural disaster or civil disturbance here in Tajikistan, you should let your relatives know as soon as possible that you are safe. You may contact the American Citizen Services Unit, which will try to pass a message to your family through the State Department. Be resourceful. U.S. officials will do everything they can to contact and advise you. However, they must give priority to helping Americans who have been hurt or are in immediate danger. In a disaster, Consular officers face the same constraints you do — lack of electricity or fuel, interrupted telephone lines, closed airports, etc. You should monitor news reports and contact the Embassy to find out if an advisory has been issued.
For more information please visit Emergencies and Crises link on the U.S. Department of State Travel web site.
Americans living in or traveling to Tajikistan are encouraged to register with the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe through the U.S. State Department's travel registration website (https://travelregistation.state.gov), and to obtain updated information on travel and security within Tajikistan. By registering, American citizens make it easier for the Embassy to contact them in case of emergency.
