Assistance for Long Term Development of Tajikistan

Daniel Rosenblum, the Assistance Coordinator for Eastern Europe and Eurasia, was in Tajikistan February 26-28 to review projects funded by the U.S. Government in Tajikistan during his visit February 26-28.  In a meeting with reporters he defined “assistance” as:  financial support to help Tajikistan develop in the areas of peace and security, democratic government, health and education, economic growth, and humanitarian assistance.   He said assistance in 2008 was about $31 million and would be about $29 million this year.

Rosenblum oversees the assistance disseminated by U.S. Government agencies to the 18 states of the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe.  On February 26, he visited the Dehai Hiloli food distribution site in the Khurason District, a winter wheat field in the Javoni village, and the City Health Center in Dushanbe.  The next day he participated in the handover of $1.6 million of donated insulin to the National Clinical Endocrinology Center (read the press release), then traveled to Qurghon-Teppa for the evaluation of the “Personal Hygiene and Sanitation Education II” project (read the press release).  He also drove to the Nizhniy-Pyanj bridge to tour the customs facilities furnished through the fund he manages.
