TAJIK AND AFGHAN WOMEN-JOURNALISTS CONNECT VIA DVC

Dushanbe. Tajikistan, March 12, 2009.  To commemorate International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, Tajik and Afghan female journalists and media activists connected via digital video conference on March 12 to discuss issues that women journalists face in both countries while fulfilling their professional missions. The participants of the DVC from Tajikistan Afghanistan represented independent and state media outlets, journalism education, international wire services and non-governmental media organizations.  During the debate, participants agreed that it takes more than just journalism education to become a good journalist: it is more about having opportunities, passion and commitment to improve peoples’ lives through true journalism. They shared their personal experiences and stories about challenges they faced in their journalism career paths.  The problem of self censorship and security concerns remain among the most challenging issues for female journalists in both countries.
