U.S. Embassy Hosts Day of Fun and Games for More than 140 Orphans
Dushanbe, Tajikistan. More than 140 children from the Tursun-Zade Orphanage visited the U.S. Embassy for a full day of fun on May 10. Games and activities included football, basketball, swimming, target shooting and volleyball. Children also learned traditional American games such as hopscotch and “Slip N Slide,” flew kites and made art projects.
The event included a full lunch, which was partially sponsored by Segafredo Café and Morning Star Café. A live band performed traditional Tajik music in the afternoon. Children were able to bring their favorite toys back to the orphanage, where they will be used for years to come.
Nearly 30 volunteers, including alumni of the Future Leaders Exchange Program and U.S. Embassy staff, donated their time to the event, which was organized by the U.S. Embassy’s Marine Security Guard Detachment. Financial support was provided by the Marines’ “Toys for Tots” program, which collects donations from Embassy staff members for needy children each year. This year’s drive raised approximately $800 for this event.
