Centcom Commander Lieutenant General Dempsey meets President Rahmon

Dushanbe, Tajikistan. On July 31, 2008, Lieutenant General Martin E. Dempsey, Commander of U.S. Central Command, met in Dushanbe with the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon.  Lieutenant General Dempsey thanked President Rahmon for Tajikistan’s support of U.S. efforts in Afghanistan and assured him of the United States’ continued commitment to stability in the region, as well as to the people of Tajikistan.  The U.S. commander and the Tajik president discussed ways that the United States and Tajikistan can cooperate, particularly concerning control of the Afghan-Tajik border.
