EMBASSY DUSHANBE HOLDS THE "WHY DRUGS ARE BAD” ESSAY COMPTETION

On October 26, 2008 at the 5th International Sato Tecuo Karate-do Tournament, Necia Quast, the United States Deputy Chief of Mission, handed out prizes to the karate champions and the winners of the “Why Drugs Are Bad” essay competition.  The International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Office of the U.S. Embassy sponsored the tournament as part of a drug demand reduction project.  The project appeals to high school students in Dushanbe, Khujand and Khatlon to lead an active, healthy lifestyle.  Karate champions will speak at select schools about the dangers of drug use and serve as positive role-models in leading a drug-free lifestyle.
