Local Journalists Share Viewpoints on Religious Freedom

Local journalists from Dushanbe’s newspapers, news agencies, and international wire services shared their views of religious freedom in Tajikistan at a roundtable discussion hosted by Deputy Chief of Mission Thomas Hushek November 15, 2007. Hushek and the journalists discussed the need for an open debate on current issues affecting Tajikistan, such as the draft law on religion and recent decisions restricting religious minorities. The participants agreed that providing access to information and educating youth would best serve the public interest in promoting tolerance.
