U.S. EMBASSY LAUNCHES TRAINING SERIES FOR INTERIOR MINISTRY ACADEMY

Dushanbe, Tajikistan. On November 28th and 29th the U.S. Embassy conducted a two-day Team Building Workshop with sixteen executive officers and senior instructors of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Academy in Dushanbe who comprise the Academy Strategic Planning Committee.  The focus of this first workshop was to demonstrate team work through such concepts as how to define a team, set team goals, identify behavioural styles, and manage different types of conflicts.  Tajik Professor Olimjon Kosimov, an internationally renowned facilitator with extensive experience training public and private sector organizations, conducted the workshop.

Under the direction of Major-General Faiz Dustov, the Academy organized a strategic planning committee to apply rigorous management practices to improve the curriculum and reform the teaching methodology.

The course is the first in a series of training courses scheduled for the next 12 months and funded by the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) section of the U.S. Embassy.  As a result of the program, the Academy will provide its cadets an improved law enforcement curriculum based on modern international training standards.  The model developed in this program will be used to promote and manage similar development in other Tajikistan law enforcement academies.

The next course, "Instructor Development," is scheduled for February, 2009.  The course will be offered to Academy staff interested in learning new teaching methodologies.

The U.S. Embassy’s International Narcotics and Law Enforcement program has provided more than $28 million in assistance to support Tajikistan’s security, rule of law, police, and counter narcotics efforts since 1992. Its programs include training programs, border post reconstruction and provision of technical equipment.
