Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit

August 2008

In connection with the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, Dushanbe will likely experience numerous road closings beginning on August 26 and continuing through and including August 28.  This may adversely impact normal working operations at the Embassy.  Therefore, the Consular Section kindly asks any American citizens who need to visit the Embassy for routine consular services to plan accordingly, scheduling their visits around the Summit dates.  As always, in the event of an emergency, the U.S. Embassy in Tajikistan can be reached 24 hours a day at 992-37-229-2000 or at 992-90-770-1032.  The Consular Section can be reached directly at 992-37-229-2300 during normal working hours.

We take this opportunity to remind the community to review their safety precautions.  U.S. citizens are strongly encouraged to maintain a high level of vigilance, be aware of local events, and take the appropriate steps to bolster their personal security.  For additional information, please refer to “A Safe Trip Abroad” found at http://travel.state.gov/.  Updated information may be obtained by contacting the American Embassy in Dushanbe at dushanbeconsular@state.gov or by calling the Consular Section at 992-37-229-2300 during normal working hours.  For the latest security information, Americans traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department's Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov/ where the Worldwide Caution http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/pa/pa_1161.html and the Country Specific Information for Tajikistan can be found.  Up-to-date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the U.S., or, for callers outside the U.S. and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays.)
