WARDEN MESSAGES
The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Tajikistan would like to bring the following message to the attention of American citizens residing or traveling in Tajikistan:
Dushanbe warden message – July 28, 2009
Due to explosive devices detonated near Dushanbe International Airport and Hotel Tajikistan over the weekend, the US Embassy has restricted US Embassy American personnel from lodging at Hotel Tajikistan for a period of 30 days. There is no indication that these events are anti-American in nature. While we cannot make specific recommendations regarding safety at any particular Dushanbe hotel, we advise extra caution in general concerning movements around the city.
As always, American citizens are reminded to maintain a high level of vigilance and to take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness. Americans are reminded that there is a continuing threat of terrorist actions and violence against Americans and American interests throughout the world. Frequent targets of extremists include high-profile sporting events, residential areas, business offices, hotels, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, schools, public areas and locales where Americans gather in large numbers, including during holidays.
For the latest security information, Americans living and traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department of State's Bureau of Consular Affairs Internet website at http://travel.state.gov/, where the current Worldwide Caution, and Country-Specific Information for Tajikistan can be found. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).
